Alder Leaf Beetle (Agelastica alni):

Nice photographs, particularly the top one, which is the closest shot I have seen of this beetle.
Really captures the blueness as it enjoys the sun - one of millions this year I suspect.

Cheers,
Don

Numerous specimens seen on trees and posts around a small pond in Gresty Greenway, Crewe. Found this recording website after scouring the web to identify the beetle so have signed up. Unfortunately I didn't count their numbers but I am preparing a record to submit the sighting. Image link below to confirm correct ID.

Hello Carl,

Welcome to the forum!

It is Agelastica alni, and now that you've got you eye in for it, you'll probably notice it all over Cheshire!

It is now well established in Hampshire, so the north and south populations will gradually spread out and 'merge' and it will be found almost anywhere there are Alders .

Thanks for the record.

Cheers,
Don
