They Get Everywhere:
Isn't it reassuring when travelling in foreign parts to see something familiar ? Well-known coffee shops, burger joints and beetles lurk around every corner, it's just like being at home ...... wait a minute, beetles ?
I took this photo a couple of weeks ago at Sprague Lake in the Colorado Rockies and I'm convinced it's Alder Leaf Beetle (Agelastica alni), chomping on some shrubby Alnus glutinosa at the water's edge. It could almost be Neumann's Flash !
Can anyone confirm ID ?
Where did A. alni originate - are they from the Americas, or, like democracy and liberty, did we introduce them ? (Oops, can of worms).
Cheers,
Tom B.
