Identification Please:

Can anyone help identify these powder blue beetles ?? They are about 3-4mm long and were found in their hundreds on Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) with odd ones on various grasses. Willaston Meadow.

Mike,

They are the weevil Phyllobius roboretanus also known as the Small Nettle weevil - a bit of a misnomer really as they can be found on a variety of plants. They are often in large numbers and common throughout England - Scotland has few records, and Ireland none. There are a few similar, but larger, species of weevil that are also green and found on nettles.

Thanks Don,

I couldn't find them in my Collins beetle book. Much appreciated.
