Galls of Lipara lucens at Moore Nature Reserve:
On Wednesday 25th March 2015 I found galls of the Chloropid fly Lipara lucens on Phragmites growing in the old Latchford Canal at the eastern end of Moore Nature Reserve, Moore, Warrington (SJ59528644). I believe these may be the first record of this species in Cheshire.

Did you rear any ?
I've had both lucens and rufitarsis emerge from galls that, from their shape, ought to be lucens. Also another chloropid often comes out.
I don't know what the trick is for successful rearing. Galls from the Humber nearly always produce something, while galls from Anglesey haven't done so after several attempts.

Sadly John, despite collecting plenty, I never had any emergences. Perhaps I will try again this coming year.
