Any help with id appreciated. I'm looking at Scoparia ambigualis or Eudonia mercurela... am I close?
Thanks. David

Hi David,

I use the "Common Micro-moths of Berkshire" to help distinguish between these - the ID tips are second to none (although the binding of the book leaves something to be desired....).

I'd suggest this is Scoparia ambigualis, although a more experienced individual might want to confirm this for you.

The Berkshire book mentions that the second white cross line has a "small inward-pointing peak near the tornus", which your photo shows. Overall somewhat ochreous. Eudonia mercurella is darker.

Regards, Julian
