Knopper Galls

Dear All,

Whilst out and about in Lymm, Warrington yesterday I happened across a small Oak tree alongside the canal that was literally covered in Knopper galls caused by the gall wasp (Andricus quercuscalicis).

When I say covered there literally was only one or two acorns WITHOUT Knopper galls on them. Can I ask does anyone know whether we are having a good year for them ? Was this just an unlucky tree ?

Cheers,
Eric

There aren't (m)any here in Yorkshire (I had a few last year, which were a first for me, so I have been looking again this time), but whether it is a regional thing or just that your tree's been very unlucky I don't know !
