My own attempt to ID suggests a similarity to Pachyprotasis rapae? Quite common, but usually seen early to mid Summer.

I am not an expert but it looks like an Ichneumon wasp similar to sarcitorius group. Try: http://www.tuin-thijs.com/sluipwespen-i ... engels.htm, they have pictures of a lot of similar ones but include European which may not all be in Britain.
