Dead Birds In The Wrong Place:

We have a dead Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) in the garden. I have never seen one in the vicinity in all the years we have lived here. Three days ago, it appeared at the back of the house, dead as the proverbial. Such a sad sight. Its wings were folded, it looked as though it had just been sitting watching for a fish. Really out of place. This was odd enough, but in the same place yesterday we had a Swallow (Hirundo rustica) appear- also in a resting pose, as opposed to in flight mode.

Any suggestions as to how and why ?

Looking on the RSPB website, it suggests that "there are many causes of birds dying, the most usual being an outbreak of an infectious disease, such as Salmonella. If you clean your feeders and birdtables regularly you will help prevent infections from spreading." - http://www.rspb.org.uk/makeahomeforwild ... /faqs.aspx.

However, Salmonella more usually affects flocking ground feeders, so it could possibly be another disease ? More here: http://www.rspb.org.uk/makeahomeforwild ... birds.aspx.

We're still waiting on analyses of the dead birds that will solve it.

We must preserve all the birds for nature. Also, take action on whoever responsible for dead birds.
