Re: Unusual Flower Found On Towpath In Audlem (SJ6588212)
It looks like a Willowherb - Epilobium sp. with 4 notched petals, rather than 8 petals. Possibly Marsh Willowherb, Epilobium palustre: someone else may be able to give you a firm ID.

Thanks Clive,
Went to the "Nantwich Show" yesterday 27/07/2016. The lady from Cheshire Wildlife Trust told me that it was a Willowherb of some sort. Having looked on-line subsequently, it looks more like Marsh Willowherb. However, I will check with the staff at rECOrd when next in, in August.

Chris Williams

Just picked up on this post and here in the RECORD office today we've all had a look and think this is Marsh Willowherb (Epilobium palustre) From what can be seen in the photo, it fits the key:
Plant greyish, leaves strap-shaped, untoothed, stem round, in ± acidic bogs.
Plant green or reddish, leaves usually toothed, stem mostly with 2 or 4 raised lines.
