Pale Tussock Pupa:

Today I found something I’ve never seen before. I’ve been putting together a new ‘bug hotel’ to supplement a small one we already have on the garden shed. I returned to the job today, only to find I won’t be able to do much else with it till next May or thereabouts. Inside there was the pupa of a Pale Tussock (Calliteara pudibunda). It’s recognisable by the hairs from the caterpillar incorporated into it – mostly yellow, but if you look carefully you can also see a bunch of hairs from the red tail tuft.
