Evening All,
Probably like most people, my trap was crammed full of moths this morning.
What surprised me most was the amount of Broad-bordered Yellow Underwings.
I usually get on a good night 3 or 4 in the trap. Last night amoungst 150 Yellow Underwings was
34 Broad-bordered, the females outnumbered the males 3 to 1.
At least one species seems to have benefited from last years hot dry weather.
Is anyone else getting decent numbers too?
Greg

Re: Unprecedended number of Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing
More than usual Greg but nothing like the numbers you are getting.
Also getting lots more Clays and Dun-bars than usual...
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Unprecedented number of Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing
Only had single Broad-bordered Yellow Underwings so far here this year.
Dun-bar does appear to be doing well this year, it's certainly the most common noctuid I'm finding when out in the field.
I don't catch many Clay in the garden, my best year was 2013 when I caught nine. So far this year I've caught a dozen in the garden.
Regards
Steve
