What is this big red mushroom?

Can anyone help to identify this huge red mushroom.
My Roger Phillips book shows several red Russulas but none anywhere as large as this, 25cm across the cap.
Found beside one of the forest roads on Moel Famau.
A rather tatty specimen, well past its best, but bigger than my glove.
