Harris Hawk - 06/03/2010 - Widnes

Harris Hawk - 06/03/2010 - Widnes:

A Harris Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus) was spotted sitting in the trees on The edge of Dundalk Road Golf Course - running along the side of Speke Road, Widnes at Grid Ref.: SJ49768514 today (Saturday 6th March 2010). It was seen at 14:40 and again at 15:50.

Presumably it was an escaped bird owned by a local (there are a couple of owners known from the area).

15/3/10 - 12.25 p.m. A Harris Hawk flew right across the road in front of me today as I was slowing down for the roundabout at the top of the slip road leading onto the Knowsley Expressway (A5300) (SJ47468507). As this is only down the road from the last sighting I do wonder if it is the same bird.

I teach in Halewood and a couple of the children's parents do own Harris Hawks. Neither of them know of a Harris Hawk lost/missing.

There's been a Harris' Hawk 'resident' in the Wervin area for about three years now (since March 2009 at least). Not much fun for the local pigeons and Jays perhaps but a stunner when seen.

Yet another sighting of a Harris Hawk today (Friday 6th January 2012). It flew up to and landed on top of a street-lamp on Higher Road, Halewood, Liverpool (SJ44358501) with, seemingly, all the traffic passing obliviously underneath it.

A bit of an unexpected surprise. I wonder if it is the same one seen in Widnes and/or by the Knowsley Expressway - as indicated in this thread ???

Steve H.,

The Harris Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus) is now available on the NBN Species Dictionary and consequently sightings of this bird can now be entered into RODIS. This means that any sightings of the bird at Wervin as noted in your previous post here could be entered onto the database.

Cheers.

Steve
