Blackneck, almost

Post by JulianB »

Hiya,

A month ago Swampthing posted about a Blackneck that took flight before he could snap it - how ungrateful of it! I would have added to his thread, but I think a toxic link has crept in there.

I'd never trapped a Blackneck either (indeed, none in our hectad), so I was delighted when I saw a possibility in our trap on 13.07.20. With Andy's howl of anguish still ringing in my ears, I photo'd it carefully on its egg box before trying to tap it out. And it was off like a shot then, across the yard, but did eventually settle for some better photos on a wall. So be warned - they are very flighty - and I reckon that confirms Andy's moth!

What I then saw for myself is that the Blackneck is like the Black-headed gull, as their colourings are both chocolate-brown, not black.....

Cheers, Julian
