Mixed bag for i.d. assistance

Post by swampthing »

Hi gang,

Some random shots from last night, and some random guesses by me! For the plume, I'm going for 'brown' because it is! Span of one wing was 20mm. The ermine I'm taking a shot at 'willow'. Wing length was 11.5mm.
Pug 1. I'm going for triple-spotted, because with the light shining through the wings, the three dark patches were the only feature visible. It was 19.5mm.
Pug 2. A poor photo through the side of the pot because it would not sit still. Probably too little to go on, I guess. Wingspan was 22.5mm.
The last one I'm more confident of: Argyresthia goedartella, although the posture is not how it is shown in the micros guide.
Looking forward to the concensus opinion as I'm always willing to learn.

Andy B.

Hi Andy
Argyresthia goedartella is correct.
Pug 1 is Slender Pug - note the small size and small circular discal spot
You need to rear the ermines to be sure as they feed on different plants.
The plume shows a white subterminal line which is missing on Brown Plume. It could be a worn Beautiful Plume Amblyptilia acanthadactyla, as there is evidence of the scale-tooth along the dorsum.

Steve
