A couple of micros

Post by Tim_Ward »

On 7th August I had some 30 species of micro in my Macclesfield garden trap. I've spent the last week identifying them.....just got 2 specimens I'm not sure about (photos attached). The first is 7mm and the second 8mm wing length. I'm happy to dissect as necessary but need a clue first as to what they might be.......
Thanks in anticipation, Tim

Hi Tim,

I reckon they could well both be Bactra lancealana but I’d recommend a second opinion!

Cheers

Not sure about the first but I agree, the second one is Bactra lanceolana. The easy way to become familiar with the species is to find a patch of wet rushes as they are easily flushed. I put up 35 from a field at Styperson on Thursday night which included the whole range of varieties.

Thanks guys. I'll dissect the first of these to check whether it is lanceolana.
