ID and some interesting finds.

Post by bobhelencoan »

We have been a bit lax in posting recently so this is a bit of a catch-up. The trap went out on Monday night anticipating a warm night, 108 moths of 31 species.
One we think is a worn sallow and a tiny micro we think is an Elachista species possibly freyerella which would probably need dissection. Any help with these tow much appreciated.
MOTH NIGHT brought us our first ever Frosted orange. 4th September a nice light emerald turned up.
Whilst pruning our crab apple and looking for leaf mines at the same time we came across a pale tussock larva.
Next day a Buff tip larva walked across our path and we also found what we think is a common marbled carpet larva on our hawthorn hedge.

Hi Bob & Helen,

Agree with Sallow. How about Mompha subbistrigella for the tiny one?

Cheers

Thanks Paul. Yes it could be a mompha but doesn't seem to have the pale head markings shown in the book. Bob & Helen
