Merveille du Jour

Post by melbellingham »

Both species and numbers have been down recently, so it is always a good feeling when one of the autumn specials appear.

Merveille du Jour is one of those moths.

Other recent NFY records have included Red-line Quaker, Dark Sword-grass and Green-brindled Crescent.

If we had a competition for the best M d J picture in the county each year, this one would certainly be a contender Mel!

We trapped one last year, but are still waiting this season.

Hi Julian,

Thanks for your comments.

I used to try to get natural looking images with new moths, but in recent years I have been satisfied with record shots. Most of my images now are taken on a section of tree trunk, as you have probably noticed.

With the recent winds, the small branch in the image, fallen from one of the oaks bordering my garden was too good to waste, especially for a nice moth.
