Stigmella atricapitella?

Post by Tim_Ward »

I spent much of Wednesday inspecting Oak leaf-mines at Tegg's Nose. Given my previous experience of trying to id Stigmella species, I'm not optimistic about getting definite id's on most of my finds, but here is one I think might be identifiable.........
The upperside gallery mine is tenanted by a whiteish-yellow larva with dark thoracic sclerites. The egg is on the underside (ringed in the final photo). The frass is in a thick central line.
I'd be grateful for confirmation that this is Stigmella atricapitella.
Tim

Yes Tim, Stigmella atricapitella, with the dark sclerites and underside egg position.
