I cant decide whether this Phyllonorycter mining in Snowberry in my garden is trifasciella or emberizaepenella. Can anybody advise?
Cheers, Tim

Hi Tim
I often find these two tricky to separate and normally rear them to confirm but Phyllonorycter emberizaepenella is normally the one which emerges from Snowberry in Cheshire and Phyllonorycter trifasciella normally from Honeysuckle. Your mine does resemble Phyllonorycter emberizaepenella and this is backed up by the larva, which has a greenish head, with brown sides and mouth parts, as the larva of Phyllonorycter trifasciella has a pale brown head, with darker mouth parts.
