Not a pug again!

Post by swampthing »

Before you jump to conclusions, I only caught 3 moths last night, and they were all melanistics, so I am sparing you those! However, I would be grateful for opinions on this one from 1st June. I'm going for Freyer's, purely on the fact that it was 24mm wingspan. However, the thoracic spot is putting me off the idea. Or is it just a worn spot? Don't we just love 'em.

Thanks in anticipation,

Andy B.

Hi Andy,

I also struggle with some pugs still. but I would go for Golden-rod Pug.

The wingspan would suggest the correct wing length, the discal spot is prominent and your pug shows the chequered veins. The thorasic spot looks too uniform just to be just wear and tear.

Thanks Mel. I won't argue (because I can't)! Interestingly, I thought that the 3 melanistics I caught a few nights afterwards were probably all golden-rods, so it sort of makes sense - which, of course, you can't use with pugs.
