Coleophora trifolii?

Post by andrewjcharlton »

I know this is a difficult group to ID from photos, but is this Coleophora trifolii, which has occured here once before in 2006? It looks ok to me on size, and the pale-tipped antennae, but the 'margin of the eye edged yellow' I fail to see here (or so far on any published photos).

Many thanks for confirmation (or otherwise).

Andrew

Hi Andrew
The large size rules out other possibilities.
The upper margin of the eye is edged orange-yellow, the lower margin is fringed with straw-coloured hairs. I can see the straw-coloured hairs along the lower margin of the eye on your photo but not the colours on the upper margin. You probably need good light and a strong lens to see that feature.
Regards
Steve
