Unid Tortrix for ID

Post by Tim_Ward »

Happy New Year everybody!
I ran the trap last night for the first time this year in my Macclesfield garden and hosted 3 moths overnight; a Common Quaker, a March Moth and a Tortrix (see attached photos). I'd welcome views on what the Tortrix might be (I wondered about Acleris schalleriana). I've still got the moth and so can dissect if required.

Hi Tim
You will need to dissect that one.
The Acleris we normally find at this time of year are A. notana and A. ferrugana but A. schalleriana was found at Alsager last winter, so do let us know which it turns out to be.
Regards
Steve

I've now dissected the moth (see attached photo of rather messy dissection) and Steve confirms that it is in fact Acleris hastiana. Many thanks to Steve, as always!
