Help with ID please

Post by bobhelencoan »

We kept a lot of oak twigs from a rather severe pruning of our old oak tree. A branch had fallen into our neighbours garden so it did need looking at. From one of the oak buds a red barred tortix hatched last week and from the same twig another micro hatched last night. We think it is zeiraphera isertana but it seems very early even from being kept in the garage over winter. A second opinion would be appreciated. Bob & Helen

Hi,

I think you are correct with your ID. Most of my literature gives a flight period from May or late May, so it would seem about right.
