Micro identification

Micro-moth Identification:

Trapped at Bromborough (SJ37) in late July2011; 20mm wingspan. Any suggestions please ?

Hi Ed,

It is clearly a Scoparid, a bit worn too, but it is late in the season for them. If I had my arm twisted I'd plump for Eudonia mercurella.

Hi again Ed,

I just realised you said the photograph was taken in July !! I'd probably still go with my initial thoughts, but at that time of year, Scoparia ambigualis is on the wing and should be the first species you look to eliminate.

Thanks Steve - grotty sample as you say but probably E. mercurella
