Crimson Speckled (Utetheisa pulchella) at Nantwich

Post by stevehind »

Crimson Speckled (Utetheisa pulchella) at Nantwich:

It has been an exceptional year for the Crimson Speckled (Utetheisa pulchella) with several sightings, mainly in southern England, although one has made its way as far north as Cheshire. This individual (see photo below) was caught at Nantwich on 3rd October 2011 by Paul Griffiths.

There appears to be only one previous county record of this rare migrant, which dates back to before 1887, when JB Hodgkinson caught one at Marple.
