Acleris hastiana form radiana:
Caught the radiana form of Acleris hastiana in my garden trap at Higher Poynton last night. This is my fifth hastiana since it first arrived in my garden two years ago. There have been a further six records across Cheshire during the past three years, prior to which there are records from Sound Common in 1966, Sale in 1986 and Wallasey Sand Dunes 1998-2000, otherwise our few other records were over sixty years ago. There are reckoned to be over eighty forms of hastiana in Britain. I've also attached the form which I've caught on previous occasions.
Did well last night (20th March 2012) with 256 moths of 17 species, including Agonopterix ocellana, 2 Caloptilia stigmatella, Yellow Horned (Achlya flavicornis), Shoulder-stripe (Anticlea badiata), 3 Oak Beauty (Biston strataria) and 3 Brindled Pug (Eupithecia abbreviata). The bulk of the catch was made up of 137 Small Quaker (Orthosia cruda) which continues to appear in large numbers; over 700 so far this year.
Regards,
Steve
