..another early season micro:
Hi folks,
The beast in the attached photo was in our garden trap in Elton last week. March is traditionally a period during which we practically never catch micros ...... net result, I've no clue as to what it is! Offers?
Cheers,
Steve

How about our first Cheshire Leek Moth Acrolepiopsis assectella.
Presumably not a welcome addition to the county from a gardening perspective.

Steve

Thanks again Steve,
I'm not sure I'd have gotten Acrolepsiopsis assectella from looking at the photo in UKMoths, or in MOGBI Vol 3, or in Parenti !! Then again, they all look like pristine specimens and this one certainly isn't. However, looking on the net for other images of less perfect specimens it looks good for it.
It brings us to 20 species in March so far, including five new for the garden!
Cheers,
Steve

Hope your run of new moths for the garden continues - away from Cheshire at the moment, so no news from Marbury - Don't forget the LCES Exhibition (Lancs & Chesh Entomological Society) at Frodsham Community Centre, Fluin Lane everyone - this Saturday - 31st March 2012.

Another Leek Moth was trapped in a Crosby garden by John Donnelly on the 25th June 2012, the first for Lancashire !
