Marbury Micros

Post by bankst »

Walking through Marbury Country Park on Saturday morning (14th April), I found myself enveloped in a little cloud of these moths in flight, with many more on the ground crawling over the leaf litter. Apologies for the slightly blurred photo, but light levels were still low just after sunrise. I'd say they were approx. 7-8mm long. Any ideas for an ID?

Cheers,
Tom.

Hi Tom,

I'm guessing that you were amongst oaks, as this is Eriocrania subpurpurella, a species which is often abundant at this time of year on oak.

Regards
Steve

Thanks Steve.

It's mixed deciduous woodland with plenty of oak, so sounds spot-on. I'll get 'em on RODIS!

Cheers,
Tom
