Spindle Ermine Season Again

Spindle Ermine Season Again:

Folks,

The annual show is well underway at Frodsham Marsh (see posts from last year for location details), though this evening (31st May 2012) there were no "snow clad" Spindle trees as there have been in previous years. I don't think that particular part of the show is over, as a fortnight ago there was virtually no sign of any activity whatsoever. Nonetheless, there were tens of thousands of larvae to be seen today.

On the home front, our 4th ever Pale Tussock Calliteara pudibunda was in the trap this morning along with our 3rd ever Waved Umber Menophra abruptaria and the first Argyresthia cupressella of the year.

Cheers,
Steve
