Half year report .... Not quite so bad as first thought!:

Hi folks,

Well the year is half over, so I thought I'd write up its scorecard based on our trapping sessions here in Elton.

To date, we have trapped 170 species, which is a little above the average between 1999 (when we began recording micros too) and 2012. The worst and best for the same period are 96 species (2005) and 210 (2006). Interestingly, both 2006 and 2010 produced more species IN JUNE ALONE than this YEAR has managed!

On the brighter side, the 170 species includes no less than SEVEN new to our garden: Niditinea fuscella, Phyllonorycter corylifoliella, Acrolepiopsis assectella, Diurnea fagella, Spuleria flavicaput, Tortricoides alternella and Oak Beauty (Biston strataria).. In the same vein, working my local patch has also been productive, with 11 additions to its overall species list.

Cheers,
Steve
