Scarce Silver-lines (Bena bicolorana):

I found this beautiful moth last night. I have never seen it before and wonder how common it is in south Cheshire?

Hi Alison,

Lovely moth.

Scarce Silver Lines is quite widespread but very local in Cheshire I think.

I catch it every year in Cheadle Hulme but usually only one, sometimes two individuals, but I haven't seen it this year as yet !

Cheers
Geoff.

Hi Alison,

We are not in South Cheshire, but an indication of the scarcity of Scarce Silver-lines is that we have caught just six in Elton since 1991, and none at all since 2009.

Green Silver-lines Pseudoips fagana britannicais only slightly more common, with 10 individuals in the same time, the last being 2011.

Always bring a smile when we see either.

Cheers,
Steve
