Finally stumbled past 200 species for the year ....:

Hi folks,

Despite last night (23rd July 2012) being humid and muggy the resulting catch wasn't the anticipated "bulging net"! There were 52 species, which was an improvement, but not too many moths - the largest total of any single species being 11 of The Fan-foot Herminia tarsipenallis and 10 Marbled Beauty Cryphia domestica. However, it was a special night for other reasons, with TWO new species for the garden, namely a single Archips xylosteana and THREE beautiful Grapholita janthinana. The latter may have been 'overlooked' in the past, as they are reputedly early evening fliers, and quite by chance I turned the trap on a lot earlier than normal, 20:30 and not 21:30 .... might have been the difference between attracting them or not.

So its now 211 species for the year - many species down on the norm ..... by the end of July 2011, we stood at 293.

Cheers,
Steve
