August.... better than July!:
Hi Folks,
With a few more additions to the year list last night (The Sallow, Six-triped Rustic, Agriphila geniculea, Dipleurina lacustrata, Phycitodes saxicola and Cochylis atricapitana August became the best month of the year so far with 142 species (besting July with almost two weeks still to go!). To become the best August ever it will have to get to 158.
This phenomenon of August being the best month of the year has happened with us only once before, in 1998, a time before we recorded micros. In stark contrast, July outscored August in 2011 by 214 to 120! What a difference a year makes ......
Cheers,
Steve

Re: August.... better than July!
I'm surprised that you have not had Dipleurina lacustrata before now as it has been very common up here, with 300+ so far this year.

Re: August.... better than July!
300+ is obscene! ...... not had 300 of ANY species this year yet.
We only got our first ever in 2005 Steve, then had it again in 2006, missed until 2010 and then 2011 and finally this year. In total we've had just 18.
Cheers,
Steve
