Mine on Oak

Post by SteveH »

Mine on Oak:

Hi Folks,

Not much on the moth front on the local patch at the moment (dragonflies having taken centre stage just now) - however, the attached were found this morning. The mine on oak is a puzzle and I'm wondering if it might be an old mine of Acrocercops brongniardella? The larva is one of the biggest of Buff-tip Phalera bucephala that I'd ever seen, and it was also the first for tetrad SJ47M outside of our garden.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,

It's the sawfly mine Profenusa pygmaea, which is common and widespread throughout Cheshire.

Regards,
Steve
