Waved Black at Shavington:
I've just received the attached photo of a Waved Black (Parascotia fuliginaria) which was caught by Roger Benson at Shavington on 8/8/2012. The only previous county record was of one caught only about a mile away by Dave Taylor on 29/7/1993. This was considered at the time to have hitched a lift from further south, as the site was next to the railway track, so has this one done the same or is there a local colony?
Regards,
Steve

Re: Waved Black at Shavington
Steve,
I caught two Waved Black in my garden at Flixton (VC59) this year 25/7/2012 and 5/8/2012 also one previously 11/8/2007.
This is a species which likes damp areas and feeds on fungi and rotten wood; due to the weather this Summer it may have helped this species, maybe it isn't strongly attracted to light. There have been a couple of other records in Lancashire over the last few years.
