How To Find and Identify Micro-Moths - Course:

Dr Mark Young – in association with the World Museum, Liverpool.

THIS COURSE IS NOW FULLY BOOKED !!!

A two day workshop on Saturday 21st (indoor and fieldwork element) and Sunday 22nd September 2013 (fieldwork element only).

The aim of this workshop is to help those who are already interested in moths find and identify Micro-moths and we will try and make it useful to those who are just beginning to look at micros, as well as those who are more experienced. Anyone with a genuine interest in micros is very welcome to attend.

We will use Sterling, Parsons and Lewingtons’ recent "Field Guide to the Micromoths" as the basis for discussion, leading through to more detailed texts, and including guidance on how to start identifying micros, the good and bad points of the various books, and hints and pointers about making a safe diagnosis. We will start indoors, so please bring your own unidentified micro-moths and pictures, but we will also go out into the field to find moths and caterpillars and identify them there. It is often much easier to identify a moth in the proper context of its habitat. The field events will be in Formby (National Trust), West Lancashire (Saturday pm) and Roudsea Wood and Mosses NNR, South Cumbria (Sunday).

Priority for booking will be given, in the first instance, to those attending the Museum session and at least one field event.

Please note, pre-Booking is required for all elements of this course which will be free of charge although numbers will be limited to a maximum of 30. The course will be widely advertised in Lancashire, Cheshire, Cumbria and surrounding areas so early booking is essential. Further details will be sent out once you have booked.
