Saltersley Moss Moths:
Spent a few hours on Saltersley Moss, Wilmslow this afternoon (Saturday 6th April 2013), mostly sweeping heather for larvae. Heath Rustic (Xestia agathina) was easily the most common species, with a dozen larvae found. Also had a couple of larval cases of Coleophora juncicolella. The only adult moths were good flight views of four Orange Underwings (Archiearis parthenias).
Regards,
Steve

Re: Saltersley Moss
The Orange Underwings (Archiearis parthenias) were also quite active high in the birch at Neumann's flash on Saturday afternoon. Also pair of Small Tortoishells (Aglais urticae).
Re: Saltersley Moss
Back onto the Wilmslow Mosses yesterday (Wednesday 10th April 2013), this time to Lindow Common. Sweeping the heather there produced another eight Heath Rustic (Xestia agathina) and Coleophora juncicolella larvae, as well as an Oak Eggar (Lasiocampa quercus) and Coleophora pyrrhulipennella larvae.
The past couple of nights has produced Yellow Horned (Achlya flavicornis), Shoulder Stripe (Anticlea badiata), Oak Beauty (Biston strataria) & Pale Pinion (Lithophane hepatica) in the garden trap.
Regards,
Steve
