Post by SteveMcBill »

Tree Bumblebee (Bombus hypnorum) - 2013:

First Tree Bumblebee (Bombus hypnorum) sightings of the year for me today (Saturday 8th June 2013). One in the back-garden at Priory Close, Runcorn and one at Cotoneaster flowers in the back-garden in Millcroft Road, Woolton, Liverpool.

About time too !!!!

Thanks Steve,

Have been recording with Hilary Ash in the last month and have seen Tree Bumblebee (Bombus hypnorum) in Willaston, Lowlands Wood at Eastham Rake and in the greenhouse on Hilbre.

Yes, Cotoneaster seems to be one of their favourite food sources - a pity it lasts for such a short time, Tree Bumblebees, Early Bumblebees, workers of White/Buff-tailed Bumbles and even the occasional Large Red-tailed Bumblebee on the Cotoneaster too.

Don't forget to get those Tree Bumblebees into RODIS Alison (and everyone else) - please !!
