Spotlight Session: Moth Trapping 23 July

SPOTLIGHT SESSION: Moth Trapping

For our next Spotlight Session we're doing things a little differently and are inviting you to join us for some morning moth ID!

23 July 2022, 8:30am - 10:00am
Cedar House, Chester Zoo, CH2 1LH

BOOK YOUR FREE PLACE

Do you know your 'Heart and Dart' from you 'Flame Shoulder' or your 'Uncertain' from your 'Spectacle'?! Join us as we delve into the fascinating world of moths. We'll have a look to see which species have flown into our moth traps overnight and there will be a chance for everyone to 'give it a go' with some beginner moth identification before letting the moths go.

If you’re new to invertebrate identification, we’ll help get you started and work together to understand what features to look out for. For anyone with an existing interest, it’s a great chance to find out some more detail about this group through practicing species identification in a friendly setting. Anyone is welcome, but the session is not aimed at experienced moth recorders.

As we'll (hopefully!) have live moths for you to see*, we're running this Spotlight Session on a weekend morning rather than Wednesday evening as per previous sessions. Sensible children are welcome but any under 18s need to be accompanied by an adult.

In order to get the most out the session, we advise that you watch the following webinar beforehand: Introduction to Macro-moth Identification (SEWBReC). Then you can come along on the day to put your new-found knowledge to the test!

*the number of moth's we'll see will depend on the weather and other factors - we can't guarantee their presence!

The session is being run in collaboration with the Tanyptera project.

Bookings for this event close on 21st July.
