A Caddis Larva to Record Without Getting Wet:
If you walk past a leaf-filled ditch or pond and notice dead tree leaves that have had a big semi-circle, or even complete circle, cut out of them, it is a clear sign that the ditch or pond is inhabited by the larvae of the Marbled Sedge caddis Glyphotaelius pellucidus. They cut out these disks to make their larval cases. The water-bodies they use dry up over summer and the adult hides away before returning in late summer to lay their eggs - which are also unmistakeable and I will submit a photograph of them at the appropriate season.
