In Our Moth Trap. Is It A Fly ?

With the macro & micro moths this lovely coloured insect was crawling around.
Any help to identify it much appreciated.

Hi Bob & Helen,

Not entirely sure - could be a sawfly or a parasitic wasp ......

Cheers,

It is a Parasitic Wasp (Hymenoptera) as you can see the petiole (a 'waist' between teh abdomen abd the thorax). A Sawfly (Hymenoptera: Symphyta) does not have a 'waist'.

You may like to see if your wasp can be identified here: http://www.nhm.ac.uk/content/dam/nhmwww ... -guide.pdf
