Two micros: getting nowhere fast!

Post by GasMacc1 »

These two micro-moths came to light in my garden in Tytherington, Macclesfield on the night of 9th June 2021.
I'm struggling to get a handle on these. Both have a forewing length of about 8mm.

For Moth A, there's not much to go on. If you magnify the photos, against the brown ground colour you can see a lot of small blue/silver flecks.

The markings of Moth B look a bit like the Spotted Shoot Moth, but I can't convince myself of it!

Grateful for assistance!

I think you are correct with Spotted Shoot Moth.
The first one will be Bactra lancealana

Thanks, Steve!

The picture in Sterling and Parsons is of a much paler variety of Bactra lancealana, but now I look at the photos in Manley (which has two varieties), the darker one is just like mine! (In fairness, the text for the species in Sterling and Parsons does mention "very variable".

New for the garden!
