ON THE DAY - Come along on the day to put your new-found knowledge into practice by having a go at identifying some of the common species.

Please note we are now taking bookings via Ticket Tailor rather than Eventbrite. You will notice some differences to the way things look whilst booking, but the booking process is broadly the same. If you have any issues please get in touch with us.

Did you know... that around 1/4 of all known animal species worldwide are beetles?! In the UK we have over 4000 species of beetle; 362 of which fall into the Ground Beetle (Caribidae) family. The group includes some of the largest and most colourful UK beetles and representatives can be found in almost any habitat type. We'll be focussing on a few of the commoner and more easily identified species.

During the session, we’ll have museum specimens, guides and microscopes on hand to use, so you can familiarise yourself with the ground beetles you're likely to encounter in Cheshire this year. If you’re new to invertebrate identification, we’ll help get you started and work together to understand what features to look out for. For anyone with an existing interest, it’s a great chance to find out some more detail about this group through practicing species identification in a friendly setting.

*Please note* The Spotlight Session not a formal workshop, just an opportunity to 'give it a go' along with other interested people in a shared learning environment. There will also be free hot drinks and biscuits!

This session is run in partnership with the Tanyptera Project. To hear about upcoming Tanyptera Project events click here.
