Shopping list for ID please

Post by macchi »

Shopping list for ID please:

I should appreciate any help with the identification of these moths please. I don't know if the photo of the Ermine is good enough for identification to be made and, equally, am not sure if I have identified the other moth correctly. I've seen the Ermine in the garden before but not the other three. As always, sorry the photo quality is not brilliant.

Thanks in advance.

Alison

Hi Alison,

Ermines are particularly difficult in the adult stage apart from Yponomeuta evonymella and Yponomeuta cagnagella at the Frodsham Spindle bushes! I can't be certain, but there's a chance yours might be Y.padella.

Moving down, pictures three and four show Epiblema foenella - a rather smart tortrix.

Picture five looks like the pyrale Calamatropha paludella - which has just arrived into Cheshire and the northwest over the last few years. It would be one of very few County records.

I'll pass on the last two as I can't see enough to be sure either way.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Alison,

Your last two pictures could be Epinotia brunnichana.

Steve
