Identification of Pugs:
Pugs can be extremely difficult to identify, especially the LBJs (Little Brown Jobs) and because many of those caught are old, worn and/or rubbed often the only reliable way is to undertake a genitalia dissection and examination (see the Lepidoptera Dissection Group over at: http://www.dissectiongroup.co.uk/).
For the times when pristine examples of pugs are caught it is hoped that the following photographic table, produced by Shane Farrell (Cheshire County Macro-moth Recorder), will help (the file is attached below:
