Fallow Deer (Dama dama) in Warrington:
Hi all,
We've had a visit from a Fallow Deer (Dama dama) in Rixton today, unfortunately it collided with a car ...... however it allowed us to see it and record it. So I'm wondering if anyone else has seen any or do you know of any populations of them outside the likes of Dunham Massey?
Cheers,
Helen

Re: Fallow Deer (Dama dama) in Warrington
Hi H,
Quite a topical one for me - spent last Saturday at Holker Hall with the Menil Fallow kept on the estate ......
My nearest Fallow were always a private herd in the Parbold area, way off Warrington. However I seem to remember that local business man and 'friend of Kylie' Pete Waterman had a herd at his place, although I am talking late 1980's probably.
Was it a full adult, and what sex?
Anno

Hi Anno,
It was a very large adult female, no ear tags or anything.

Re: Fallow Deer (Dama dama) in Warrington
Some kind soul liberated Mr Waterman's deer approx. 5 years ago. I don't think any survived.
Fallow being herding deer do range a long way given the correct habitat and solitary males (Pricketts) do separate from groups quite often. Most sightings of one fallow are generally it is an escapee.
A fine and beautiful thing is a herd of truly wild fallow ............
