Orange Footman (Eilema sororcula)

Post by PaulMartinHill »

Orange Footman (Eilema sororcula):

A single Orange Footman (Eilema sororcula) was found in the moth-trap at Marbury Country Park this morning (Wed 11/05/2011). It was a nice addition to the list of moths recorded at the site. :D

Paul,

I wonder if this is a sign of improving air quality in Cheshire allowing for greater growth of lichens on our trees (these lichens being the food of the larvae of Orange Footman) ?

Perhaps we need more Lichen recorders to provide information on lichen species and any increases in distribution ??

Perhaps if we look at the report by the Cheshire Landscape Trust on Lichens, and look at where the highest density of Lichens are in the county, we may find more Orange Footman!!
