Groundhopper at Burton Mere Wetlands RSPB:

Hi All,

I would like confirmation as to the identity of this orthopteran seen at Burton Mere Wetlands recently.

I only had time to photograph it once on a fence before leaping off. Judging by its long pronotum, Slender rather than Common Groundhopper fits the bill better. I have discounted any grasshoppers as it seems too early for the nymphs to appear.

Cheers,
H

Hi All,

At the L&C Ent Soc meet on the 21st April 2015 it was confirmed that the above is in fact a Slender Groundhopper (Tetrix subulata (Linnaeus, 1758)). The record has now been entered into RODIS.

Cheers,
H.
