Hi,
Can anyone help with the ID of the following moth?
It was trapped overnight Weds 28th/Thurs 29th July at Wirral Country Park, by the Ranger's Office in the main car park.
- Can anyone ID this please?
Cheers,
Matt

Matt,
It looks like a Straw Underwing (Thalpophila matura) to me.
Check over at: http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=325
Cheers
Steve

Here's a hawk moth caterpillar sent in to us via the Zoo. I'm going to go for Elephant Hawk Moth. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
Absolutely spot on !! The 'brown' form is the more usual BUT it also comes in an all green form too which I have found out on the mossland at Risley Moss, Warrington.
